It is not easy to choose the perfect holiday spot for your family. When your kids get involved, there are a lot of boxes to tick – you want heaps of fun things for your kiddos, something affordable that won’t break your piggy bank, somewhere safe and clean. Singapore ticks all these boxes.
While still packed with loads of Asian culture, a family holiday to Singapore is organised with tons of adventures for the little ones. Packed with iconic architecture, state-of-the-art attractions and action-packed theme parks, there’s also gorgeous green space and an incredible diversity of culture and tradition. As for the food, wherever you go, you’ll find delicious, authentic food!
Choosing accommodation is a tough one! And it’s even harder for parents travelling with little kids. Staying in a hotel with your children can be enough to frazzle any parent. Close quarters with not much to do and neighbours on the other side of the wall can be a recipe for disaster – especially if the kids get loud and restless.
There are a myriad of accommodations dedicated to families on travel. Whether it is in the city, surrounded by natural vistas or hidden with classic architecture, from five-star luxury hotels to budget accommodation with just a few dollars a night, any accommodation in Singapore will offer something to remember.
Kids Friendly Accommodation
It is no secret that Singapore is considered one of the very best family-friendly destinations in Asia. There are heaps of places where kids can explore and spark their imaginations. For parents, planning a vacation with their kids can sometimes be a stressful ordeal. Pairing kid-friendly perks with luxurious amenities for adults to unwind isn’t easy. If you choose to stay in the Central Business District, Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore provides fun-filled amenities that will please both adults and children.
Strategically located in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District, just a stone’s throw away from Tanjong Pagar MRT station, Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore is only a 15 minute drive from the Changi International Airport. The property stands majestically around office buildings and within walking distance of many small restaurants. Plus, it is located in a food heaven with some of the best hawker fare at Lau Pa Sat and Maxwell Food Centre, and a variety of chic family dining spots at Duxton Hill.
The hotel also offers great accessibility to the city’s commercial and tourist highlights, such as Orchard Road, Marina Bay Sands, HarbourFront, Resorts World Sentosa, and Universal Studios Singapore. Basically, anything you need is only a few steps away from where you stand. The public attractions, shops, fancy and local restaurants, and even medical centres – all are accessible to walk in less than 15 minutes. You will not be afraid to miss any of the holiday spirits.
Built with fascinating decor, the designs of the rooms are based on the modern structure and dedicated to those who place a premium on space, comfort and style. Small family travellers can opt for this type of room. Imagine your kids waking up to the breath-taking, panoramic views of the harbour from the plush comforts of the king-size bed. During our stay, we got to start the morning with a refreshing shower in the fully-fitted lux bathroom. While preparing to start the day, parents can catch up on the latest business and entertainment news with the 49-inch Smart TV with international cable and local channels. Kids can also watch international cartoon channels on the living room TV (our kids enjoyed this!).
The 58-sqm One-Bedroom Premier Suites gives everyone the space they need to spread out and relax. A separate lounge area is available where you can spend valuable time with your loved ones. Big, bright and airy, this space gave more than enough space for our active kids to run around.
Each suite features a comprehensive suite of amenities, inclusive of complimentary Wi-Fi; a fully-equipped kitchen with a fine selection of kitchenware including Nespresso® coffee machine, electric kettle, oven, rice cooker and crockery; refrigerator; in-room safe as well as a washer/dryer. One of the highlights would be the Bacha coffee and TWG tea bags available in the room.
Their signature restaurant, Collective, is a 74-seater restaurant located in the Lobby on Level 7, offering modern international cuisine hidden from the hustle and bustle of the central business district. Coming up with an urban style, the ambience is elegant.
Helmed by Executive Sous Chef Dexter Lim, expect a vast presentation of sumptuous breakfast options from Western to local selections available to power up mornings, while modern international dishes are served for lunch and dinner.
My recommended dish is their Nasi Lemak. The rice was fluffy and came with all the right spices. Paired with a healthy heaping of their house-made sambal, each spoonful was rich and savoury with a slight sweetness from the chilli. This has made it to the top of my list of must-attempt restaurants in Singapore!
You can also start your day with a selection of Starbucks® favourite beverages from the “We Proudly Serve Starbucks®” programme as part of the complimentary breakfast buffet at the Collective – Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore being the first hotel to offer this.
This aparthotel is committed to consistently upgrading its facilities for the enjoyment of families alike. Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore offers tons of options to keep your little champs busy. The fact that they don’t have a kid’s club doesn’t limit the activities for your children. In fact, to keep the ‘home sweet home’ vibe, the hotel prepares a ‘Toy Collection’ for them to play around with during their stay. They’ve put together a depository of toys and kids’ amenities, such as electric cars or motorbikes, play tents, puzzles and many more – all for complimentary loans! What is even more wonderful is that parents can accompany their little ones in the activities, thus spending some much-needed quality time with them. We rented an electric car for my kids which they just played with all day – almost skipping lunch and dinner!
One of the more unique offerings is their Plant Library. In line with Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore’s approach to living harmoniously with the environment, they’ve introduced a custom-built Dao Plant Library in the lobby at level 7. Few hotels can boast of this! Open to first-time plant parents and gardening experts alike, you can opt to adopt and look after your own house plant, during your stay. If you’ve got green fingers, ask the staff to find out how you can adopt a plant during your stay!
Pools for Everyone
If you are tired after a long day of travelling or sightseeing, you can easily refresh yourself with a soothing dip at the infinity pool overlooking the city skylines. With beautiful designs and indulgent features, this hotel pool takes relaxation and swimming to another level. For the fitness junkies, you don’t have to miss out on your exercise regime while on your vacation. This hotel offers a well-equipped fully functional gym and a fitness centre around the clock. Readily available is a range of new technology exercise machines, bikes, treadmills, cross-trainers, free weights, abdominal benches, dumbbells, foam rollers, cables and pulleys to work out your cardio and physio regime. You can also request for some of the wellness equipment to enjoy in the comfort and privacy of your room, such as a Fitness Aqua Bag, Tandem Bike, Dumbbell, Red Light Therapy and Sauna Blanket.
